We’re all usually there. And absolutely nothing happens when we are in survival mode because we are rigid, tense, anxious, and set on one way of doing things: the old way that we are familiar with.
And we are addicted to the adrenaline, the chatter, and feeling unworthy, undeserving, isolated, starved.
We are frenetic because we know no other way to be: we go hard and fast because if we slow down, we face parts of ourselves we don’t want to see, we feel things we’d rather not feel. We go because we are so activated to the point that we are threatened by our Truest Selves–if we slow down, we die.
We’re threatened by the beautiful things that coax us to come, sit, stay, be a different way–that they’ll lead to our demise.
And they will. They will incinerate our fear to ashes and infuse us with new life. And new, on a very real, deep level, is terrifying.
There is a way out: When we are beckoned by something that we’re afraid to say yes to, we have to trust it is for us. We cannot know the way, we’re not supposed to–that’s the point. We can be brave for each other, dare to do it differently, allow the best to come through, and be willing to start again.
Begin by taking 3 full, deep, belly breaths into the space below and behind your belly button. Hey there, sweetness.
Then ask:
✨What do I need to feel safe?
✨What would be pleasurable to feel, touch, do?
✨How can you feel good in this moment?
Place on hand on your heart and one on your belly, and see if you can evoke what safety feels like in your body: what it feels like to have your shoulders relax, your jaw unclench, the entire front of your body open.
Sometimes it helps if you are immersed in a warm bath, are under a few blankets, or you can have a trusted friend to physically press you into the ground (think hips and shoulders). OK, the above are actually my favorite ways to feel grounded and feel safe–your turn! What makes you feel safe?
