I’ve been working with this intention all week–it’s been a little rough. I’m moving through some old sadness and disappointment around not being able to trust and feel supported in relationship, and how that has helped me cultivate some iron-clad mechanisms for distancing myself once people come a little too close.
The best part? We all have similar processes–and they’ve become so natural and reflexive that we don’t even realize we’re engaging them. It’s like our emotional immune system–we don’t have to think about it, but once we encounter something that has been perceived as a threat, defenses come up and patterns play out.
All week I’ve been wracking my brain for how I can speed along this process:
- Jumping into a new relationship? (Up Next: The Please Love Me So I Can Push You Away story. It’s a great one.)
- Taking some alone time? (An oldie but goodie: The Isolation & Distance Disguised as Self Care tale. Also riveting.)
- Fucking relax and take it as it comes. (What? New release?)
We don’t have to DO ANYTHING to heal except be present, curious and playful. We are constantly being offered opportunities to grow, expand and heal, and when we adopt an attitude of openness, we are more able to navigate these opportunities with grace, and integrate them for our evolvement.
Do Less. It’s happening in perfect time, with each paving stone laid carefully and purposefully. Just follow what is in front of you.
